The benefits of Double Hung Windows

1

Where They Work

Double Hung windows can give your house a modern or traditional look. They are ideal for a home with eaves that allow you to open the top sash and not worry about the change of weather.

Use With Blinds

They are also great with roller blinds, as you can open the bottom section only and have the blind partially down without it flapping around in the wind. The optional vent locks allow the sash to be locked in a partly open position (available on aluminium WideStyle window only).

So Many Options
Decorative sash horns are available on all timber windows and the aluminium window – the Widestyle double hung. These windows are available in timber (Meranti and Western Red Cedar) or aluminium (standard and Widestyle) frames.

FAQs

What is a double-hung window?

A double-hung window features two sashes (top and bottom) that slide vertically past each other within the frame.

What are the benefits of double-hung windows?

They provide excellent ventilation control; you can open just the top, just the bottom, or both simultaneously to allow warm air to escape the top while cool air enters the bottom.

Do double-hung windows save space?

Yes, because they don’t project inwards or outwards, they are ideal for areas next to pathways, patios, or anywhere exterior space is limited.

Are they suitable for heritage homes?

Absolutely. Timber double-hung windows are a staple of heritage and classic Sydney architecture, and we specialize in authentic replacements.

Do they come with modern mechanisms?

Yes, while they retain a classic look, our modern double-hung windows use advanced spring balances (not old cords and weights) for effortless lifting.

Can I lock a double-hung window partially open?

Yes, we can fit secure ventilation locks that allow the window to remain open a few inches for air while preventing it from opening further.

Are insect screens compatible?

Yes, screens fit neatly on the outside of the window frame, allowing you to open and close the window from the inside without removing the screen.

Are double-hung windows hard to clean?

Modern designs allow for relatively easy cleaning, and because both sashes move, you have better access to the glass than older, painted-shut windows

Can they be double glazed?

Yes, our custom double-hung windows can be manufactured to incorporate double-glazed glass units.

Can you match the style of my existing double-hung windows?

Yes, our bespoke service allows us to replicate traditional timber profiles and glazing bars to maintain your home’s original character.
