WHAT TO DO: METHODS*
VINEGAR AND WATER
Not only is making your own cleaning solution easy, but it is also cost effective and has a positive impact on our environment. Simply mix half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle, spray your aluminum window or door, wait a few minutes, then wipe down with a soft, microfibre cloth. Still see a few streaks? Easy fix! Flip your cloth over and wipe it down again. It’s THAT easy!
NEWSPAPER AND WATER
An oldie but a goodie! Using either water or window cleaner, spray it directly onto the glass. Then using a scrunched-up piece of newspaper, vigorously wipe away the dirt and grime. Avoid using paper towel as an alternative, as this will leave behind lint, dust and unwanted residue.
WINDOW VACUUM
This method involves two easy steps. First, spray on your chosen window cleaner and thoroughly scrubbing it with the squeegee attachment. Next, using a window vacuum of your choice, vacuum the extra water off the glass and you’re done. Squeaky clean!
GLASS CLEANER AND A SQUEEGEE
There is nothing more annoying than streaky windows and if this is your Achilles heel when it comes to cleaning glass, then this method is just for you! Spray your window cleaner onto your glass and leave for a moment. With the squeegee, wipe your window side to side all the way from the top to the bottom. This allows you to remove all of the cleaner as it falls to the bottom of the window. Leave to dry and now you have a streak free window!
Important points to remember when it comes to cleaning your glass – avoid doing it in direct sunlight, as the evaporation rate is higher, and liquid will leave behind a residue. Furthermore, when selecting a glass cleaner, choose one that isn’t ammonia or alcohol based, as these may cause additional streaks.
Once clean, take a step back, smile and admire your glistening reflection! With these care and cleaning tips under the belt, your windows and doors will look as good as the day Select Windows and Doors installed them – every time!
